2nd Karate Youth World Cup Chalkida Greece 6th to 11th July 2009

Rachel NeweyRachel Newey (16) was the only British entrant in this years'Youth World Cup held on Evia Island in Greece.

Three days of training in the lovely resort of Holidays in Evia at Eretria was followed by two days of competition in the Chalkida Sports Centre.

Rachel entered the Junior (16 to 17years) Female Kata category and was fortunate to receive a bye first round. Doing Bassai Dai in the second round against Korea she won 3-0 and moved into the quarter final against the talented Italian girl. Rachel took no chances and performed a strong Chatanyara Kushanku to win 2-1.

Last years champion from Turkey was beaten by USA who Rachel then faced in the semi final. Both did Annan and Rachel won comfortably 3-0.

The final was scheduled for later in the morning and Rachel as aka decided to lead off with Unshu. Her Austrian opponent had chosen Chatanyara.

Rachel's kata was technically very precise backed up with lots of power and she won 5-0 to receive the applause of the whole arena.
WKF World Youth Cup Champion is a prestigious title to win for England and her association Toyakwai but Rachel now continues her training with coach Sat Sehra and National Kata Coach Jonathan Mottram to try and get selected for the WKF World Championships in Morocco in November.
